The Holy Spirit is often confusing and mysterious. Often, the ideals we entertainScreenshot 2022-11-27 at 7.18.24 AM about the Holy Spirit are much benath the actual power and ministry of the Spirit. Still, some distort the intentions of the Spirit by focusing on some experiences with the Spirit. Below is a list of all 52 mentions of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts (if I am counting correctly). These do not unclude the context. A fuller udnerstanding of the Spirit would come from broader study of each context. But perhaps it will help in a few ways: 

1. Know where to look for the Spirit as you read through Acts. 
2. Get a general understanding of all that is attributed to the Spirit in Acts. 
4. Lead to greater clarity on the ultimate mission of the Spirit in Acts.
5. Grasp the importance of the Spirit in the ministry of the church. 
6. Help you discern the ministry of the Spirit in the life of the church today.

Acts 1:5

until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 

Acts 1:5 

for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 

Acts 1:8 

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 2:17

that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, 

and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

Acts 2:33

Acts 9:17 

17 So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. 

Acts 9:31 

31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied. 

Acts 10:19 

19 And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you. 

Acts 10:38 

38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 

Acts 10:44 

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

44 While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. 

Acts 10:45 

45 And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. 

Acts 10:47 

47 “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 

Acts 11:12 

12 And the Spirit told me to go with them, making no distinction. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. 

Acts 11:15 

15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning. 

Acts 11:16 

16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

24 for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of (full of faith) faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

28 And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius).

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Acts 15:8

The Macedonian Call

And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. 

Acts 16:7 

And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. 

Acts 19:2 

And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 

Acts 19:6 

And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.

A Riot at Ephesus

21 Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.” 

Acts 20:22 -23

22 And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. 

Acts 20:28 

28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. 

Acts 21:4 

And having sought out the disciples, we stayed there for seven days. And through the Spirit they were telling Paul not to go on to Jerusalem. 

Acts 21:11 

11 And coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘This is how the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ” 

Acts 28:25 

25 And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:
